I support and believe in work from home and a hybrid workforce, but it’s not for me. it is simply astonishing the difference in my mental health, engagement, etc. when I’m in the office vs. at home. I’m a office guy, I know that makes me weird but when you are this old it’s better to know what you need…

I’ve got this dream..

..it’s probably not feasible these days though. I wish there was still local ISP’s that will host my own servers. I’m doing it in my basement and will continue to do so but I have a dream of my own family colo space, at a provider who can offer such services as email hosting. snand mail is hosted with iCloud right now but I need more access and control to expand. I have no desire to run my own provider but I also don’t want to be a small fish in the giant cloud pool. I like talking to people.

SNAND DOWN!

well, the speak and spells ran out of batteries.

out with the old.

so, after a short panic we headed to microcenter for another dry pile and tossed it into the system. wound up having to pull the heatsink to get to the power connections so job took longer than planned. but back up, snand is, a bit leaner and meaner to boot.

update- weekend’s delayed task is back on track. intention was to rebuild the dumpster NAS but instead of finishing the backup and migration, I was rebuilding snand. just noticed that my giant rsync backup job is done. I have a full second copy of the NAS so I can start pulling it apart. very little danger of losing anything but still, don’t want to fat finger anything and lose decades of data. so, weekend tasks shall be accomplished at night over this week.
